Renew and reclaim

Renewal

An active or grace-period name can be renewed for additional whole years. Renewal extends from the existing expiration timestamp, not from the time of the transaction. Entering grace does not create free registration time.

The renewal controller reads the canonical normalized name from the registry and applies the same length-tiered pricing used for minting.

Reclaim

Once grace ends, the name becomes available for a new reservation request. Hyndle verifies reclaimability on-chain before allowing a new ownership cycle.

During reclaim:

• unpaid requests do not hold priority; the first valid confirmed payment wins the new availability round
• the prior NFT remains visible until the reclaim transaction succeeds
• successful reclaim increments the ownership generation
• an unsuccessful or expired request does not change on-chain ownership

The first valid reclaim transaction uses the existing deterministic token ID and establishes a new ownership cycle.
